Children with ADHD show poorer educational outcomes

· Try,Learn,Succeed

Children who exhibit symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity are more likely to have poor educational outcomes.

Allow me to share with you some interesting research that supports the above statement…

A review article was published in 2006 that showed that children with an ADHD diagnosis were more likely to:

  • produce poor grades
  • have lower scores on reading and math tests
  • repeat a class
  • get detention
  • be expelled
  • drop out of school early
  • were less likely to go on to tertiary education

This is a sobering thought for a parent who has a child diagnosed with ADHD.

It is important to instil a love of learning at an early age. It is also important to make learning fun.

Work with your child’s teacher to help your child succeed.
