Love Heals!

Love, Health, Well-being

I’m sure you have all heard the saying… “LOVE HEALS”!

Well, scientists have looked into that too.

In 2005, a study called, “Love Promotes Health”, was published and this is what the researchers had to say…

Love has positive consequences for health for both physical and mental well-being.

Love, compassion and joy make the immune system function better and help it to fight… depression, cardiovascular disease and stress.

The research findings indicate that being involved in joyful activities such as love may activate areas in the brain responsible for emotion, attention, motivation and memory, and this leads to stress reduction.

Love and happiness cause the body to produce “happy hormones” such as endorphins, dopamine and oxytocin.

Oxytocin is the “bonding” hormone, it makes people feel good when they are in the company of loved ones such as family, friends and even pets.

Oxytocin also lowers the levels of the stress hormones (such as… cortisol, adrenaline, noradrenaline), reduces blood pressure, improves mood, and increases tolerance for pain.

The reason I included this topic in my blog posts, was to demonstrate that science has caught up with everything that we know we should be doing intuitively.

We need a lot of love and compassion when dealing with children with ADHD.

We need to remember that everyone living within the ADHD family unit, needs love and nurturing.

And, as the research has demonstrated, love affects every aspect of everyone’s physical and mental well-being.

So today, being Valentine’s Day, tell someone special…”I love you!”
