Sleep disruption precedes certain types of mental illnesses

· Sleep,Lifestyle,health

I’m sure I don’t need to tell you how important sleep is!

Did you know, sleep disruption precedes certain types of mental illnesses?

Did you know that children with and without ADHD who have trouble sleeping, have issues with concentration?

According to one researcher, sleep should be taken very seriously as it has serious impacts on one's physical and mental well-being.

Having a good night’s sleep regularly, improves the following:

Concentration, attention, decision making, creativity and social skills.

Having a good night’s sleep regularly, decreases the following:

Stress, anger, impulsivity and mood swings.

If you have a close look at the lists above, you will notice that getting regular sleep may alleviate some of the symptoms of ADHD (i.e. poor concentration, poor attention and impulsivity).

This is the reason I place such a strong emphasis on healthy lifestyle choices.

So, what helps a child with ADHD to develop a good bedtime routine, you might ask?

Let me give you a few suggestions… yoga, taking a bath with two drops of lavender oil and praying.
