• About Me

Fay Karpouzis and her daughter Georgia Isakidis

My name is Fay Karpouzis (PhD), I am the author of the But why...series. I am a retired health professional and a former researcher in Paediatric ADHD. I have also completed my doctorate evaluating school-based nutrition programs and their impact on children's fruit and vegetable intakes. Most importantly, I am a loving mother of two intelligent girls, one of whom was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), when she was a child.

I understand the challenges of raising a child diagnosed with ADHD, dyslexia, eczema and food intolerances. I have experienced the daily dramas. I know how you feel. I also felt overwhelmed, frustrated, stressed, tired, sad, hopeless and lost.

I understand how your child feels. I know they are equally frustrated, overwhelmed, anxious and lost. I know they need help. I know they just want to be comfortable to be themselves and to be accepted for who they are.

I spent many years helping my daughter Georgia, overcome her challenges. I have tried many diets, exercise programs, behavioural programs, remediation techniques, and much much more. What I discovered, was that collectively, everything I did made a difference to my daughter's life. Every program helped move my daughter forward.

My daughter is now 34 years old, she completed high school in 2008 with a high score, graduated from Sydney University with an Arts degree and found employment in a good company.

As a result of my personal experience, I decided that I wanted to help other children and parents who faced the same challenges. That is why, I undertook my Masters degree (via research) in Paediatric ADHD and complementary therapies. I wanted to help parents like you, find solutions for your child/children. So, I used my personal, clinical, and research experience and created this series of evidence-based children’s books called But why...?.

This series includes important lifestyle activities that are designed to enhance the lives of children with ADHD.

These books are filled with simple, practical and fun ways to inspire both you and your child to make healthy lifestyle choices.

In fact, all children of any age can benefit from the healthy, practical suggestions made in these books.

You and your child can start using the suggestions made in the books immediately.

The positive impact these activities will have on your child will empower them.

The whole family will be inspired to continue using these evidence-based healthy lifestyle activities together.

These books are best suited for the 4-8 age group.

They are perfect for any parent who would like to know how to help their child achieve their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

PS: I love educating parents about the variety of evidence-based complementary therapies that are available for children and adolescents with ADHD.

I will be releasing a book called the A2Z of ADHD: Alternative Decisions – Healthy Directions ™ later this year.

This book will cover the research behind the But why…? series.

It will provide research evidence for complementary and alternative therapies and healthy lifestyle activities for the management of paediatric and adolescent ADHD.

    My Mission

My mission is to donate a complete But Why...? children's book series to a children's hospital, hospice, orphanage or charity in Australia and abroad for every 1000 book series purchased.

Author Fay Karpouzis (PhD) recognises the importance of giving back to the community. She believes that every child should be given the opportunity to learn how to make healthy choices for themselves. We appreciate your support in helping us to help the most vulnerable children of the world, both in Australia and abroad.
