How to prepare your child's bedroom for sleep!

· Sleep,Relax,Routine

I’m sure you already know that sleep is important, but... do you know how to prepare your child's room for a better night's sleep?

Your child should go to bed every night at the same time and should wake up every morning at the same time...

The bedroom should only be used for sleeping...

It should be comfortable and relaxing...

It should not be too hot nor too cold...

It should be a quiet room...

It should be a dark room...

It should not be used for watching television...

Televisions, radios, computers, telephones and any other electronic devices you may have in your child's room should be removed... and... I have some suggestions of my own that I would like to share...

  • Create a ritual around bedtime every night...
  • Have a warm bath and place magnesium salts and 2 drops of lavender in the water...
  • Dress your child in pyjamas made of natural fibres...
  • Switch off overhead lights and use bedside lamps with red or orange globes...
  • Read a positive bedtime story, no scary stories...
  • Create a gratitude diary and ask your child to name 3-5 things they are grateful about, if they can't write yet, you write in their diary for them...
  • Give your child a 5 minute back rub...
  • Ask your child to focus on their breathing whilst they drift off to sleep.
